An algorithm for structural health monitoring by digital image correlation: Proof of concept and case study

In the field of structural health monitoring, use Digital Image Correlation (DIC) on relevant surfaces offers remarkable advantages. Such a method is presented herein. The statistically stationary nature usual loads makes it possible to determine, by training with DIC, reduced kinematic basis (composed “modes”) and statistical amplitude distribution for each mode. Further, specific DIC technique proposed deal such particular kinematics introducing an extractor per mode that operates images after filtering step. This per-mode measurement reduces simple scalar product between image corresponding extractor, which allows very fast non-iterative processing. As illustration, this methodology deployed test case fatigue crack propagation.
